Reconnecting with family, friends, and Community.

Maintaining Strong Bonds:

In view through the window of the 1960s - 1980s Era, it took courage to flourish against discrimination and oppression.  OCS was a model school that symbolized strength and determination.  We combined our forces, pooled our gifts, talents, and skills to create an environment where we could thrive.   We furnished cultural enrichment programs to help support ourselves along with others in the community.  Education was the key that provided knowledge and instructions to 'Seize the Time.'  For a while, we were stronger than ever (a Tower of Power).  Through a united force we understood our Position in the World and we were able to begin to advance ourselves in vision, design, and commerce.  We opened up the opportunities to begin to reach for a better life (prosper; self-govern/self-determination).

Our Mission

Our school represented cultural liberation and empowerment. We aim to continue to liberate, to empower, and to support our OCS Alumni family, friends, and the community through socializing together.  It is where we keep the OCS heart, spirit of pride, and joy through a bond of fellowship.  Also, it is where we preserve our historic memories, experiences, and lessons in connection to attending the school.  We want to make possible for community, and social groups to learn, and share in the OCS Legacy to support the needs of students in the community.

Poem: On Children

 "The Prophet," Kahlil Gibran

Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.  They come through you but not from you, and though they are with you yet they belong not to you.  You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts.  You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.  For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday. You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth...
